If coming to us for the first time please pick a riding lesson that you think is possibly less advanced than you are – this will let us assess you safely as it is not enjoyable or safe for you to be in a lesson that is too advanced.

Trekking and Hacking for beginners and the more advanced

is what we do for beginners. For the very nervous person or young children we do what we term as “a lead”. This can either be done for half an hour or an hour and you will be led in hand at walk along the tracks.
A beginner’s trek is for beginners or people competent only at walk and trot. This will go out across the river and up and round woodland. It is possible to be led on a trek. However, it is normal to do this by yourself. The more you do it the more confident you become!

is for the more skilled who must be able to walk, do rising trot and canter. You will again go across the river in the hack and up round woodland.
Most of our riding is off road using old railway lines, tracks and forest paths. Basically, the more experienced you are the harder we go!!
    Please see our Options below.

  • OPTION 14 - Trek - recommended 10 years upwards - must be prepared to trot.
  • OPTION 15 - Trek Plus - recommended 10 years upwards - must be able to do rising trot and able to do short canters.
  • OPTION 16 - Hacking - for riders who must be competent at short canters
  • OPTION 17 - Hacking - for riders who must be competent at longer canters
  • OPTION 18 - Evening Hacking - for riders who must be competent at longer canters
  • OPTION 19 - 2 hour Hacking - for riders who must be competent at longer canters
  • At certain times of the year we do beach rides and rides in Dalkeith Country Park. These rides are only open to riders who can walk, trot and canter.

Please check the noticeboard section of this site.

Our birthday parties cater for all ages of children or adults. The main children’s party package consists of half an hour grooming the ponies and learning about the pony, half an hour riding when they each go out on a pony or if they can ride they can either have a half hour lesson or a faster ride. Then the children return to the picnic area for their food, if selected and subject to Covid restrictions. The minimum number for our parties is 5.

A birthday rosette is provided for the birthday girl or boy. All you need to do is bring them along and if you wish provide a birthday cake.

The price for the birthday party depends on how many children; 5 - 9 Children from £22pp, 10 + Children from £20pp, full details on our online birthday party deposit form,

We also can do one hour riding parties followed by food – this would only be suitable for the older child or experienced riders and we can cater for adult parties, where they can ride and have food afterwards. Please enquire for prices, stating your requirements.

You can now book and pay your deposit online, select date and time required, you will then be sent an automatic confirmation.

Want to do something different? … Why not come with a group of friends from work, school, college etc, or as something unusual for stag weekends, hen parties, birthdays etc.

We also have several local pubs with good food that you can go for a meal after you have ridden. Please see price list for group rates.

    Gala Days

We have ponies available for pony rides at all Gala Days, corporate events etc. We provide the ponies complete with leaders, riding hats and a person to mount. All we require is an area of reasonable quietness for the ponies to operate in and somebody from your committee to take the money. We recommend you charge £5 per pony and this should cover your costs provided you are reasonably busy.

The ponies are provided for you for 3 hours – we can quote for longer times if you wish. Please download the form if you wish to book then send it with your deposit to us, you can now pay your deposit online if you wish. Please note some weekends are very busy so don’t leave it too long to book.

    Common Ridings

We provide horses for all the Border common ridings and gala days.

These are rides of between 5 and 25 miles – most are suitable for the experienced rider only. They are fast, fun and furious and enjoyed by the young and old. You do not have to belong to that town to take part.

We provide the horse all ready to go at the town – all you have to do is meet us half an hour before at the leave-off point. Most riders do wear correct riding gear but a show jacket is not compulsory. A shirt, tie or polo neck and jacket will suffice but you must be tidily dressed. Please bring your own hat – if you don’t have a hat you MUST contact us prior to the ride.

Please note we do recommend that we see you ride prior to the event so that we can assess and mount you correctly.

If you want a steadyish first ride – we would recommend Threepwood, Lanark Wednesday, Lindean, Torwoodlee, Melrose, Kelso Monday, Thursday or Friday, Musselburgh Monday, Lauder Thursday, Coldstream Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

For the fast and furious – Philipbrigg, Moss Paul, Southdean, Duns or Kelso Yetholm.

You can book online or with our booking form. Both will be available from January of each year. Book your favourite horse/pony early to avoid disappointment.
